Maker District Social
Community Guidelines
Welcome to Maker District Social!
The Maker District Social platform is a program created by nonprofit organization, Maker District. Maker District Social is different from a traditional e-commerce/social/educational website in that the parent organization, Maker District, has no shareholders. Revenue generated by online shops and classes is re-invested into Maker District’s overall programming - benefitting the maker community.
Born out of our passion to inspire creativity and empower makers, Maker District’s goals with Maker District Social are simple and the intentions are pure - to create a safe, inclusive, and productive environment for all makers. We will grow this platform with you, for you.
We provide an all are welcome environment where individuals can create the conditions for a thriving maker community that embraces, harnesses, and fully leverages the contributions of ALL of its members. On Maker District Social, a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community is one where ALL people, whatever their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, education, skill level or disability, feels valued and respected. We are committed to a nondiscriminatory approach. We respect and value diverse life experiences and heritages and ensure that all voices are valued, heard, and respected.
To meet the collective goals of the maker community and of Maker District, and in order to keep this experience enjoyable for everyone, we have established some community standards.

GENERAL
———————————————————————————————————————
-This platform is for users ages 18 and up, only.
-Before posting, commenting, or listing items, ask yourself 3 questions:
1.) Is it nice?
2.) Is it kind?
3.) Is it necessary?
If you answered no to any of these questions, don’t post, comment, or list the item(s).
-Any harassment or hateful conduct, including discrimination, hate speech, bullying, or targeted attacks is grounds for immediate and permanent banning from the platform.
-You will never agree with someone 100% of the time. You can respectfully challenge ideas, but never directly attack someone. Any posts, comments, or private messages to other users or admin that are aggressive, rude, or inappropriate will be immediately removed. Multiple offenses will result in removal and a ban from the platform.
-No sharing of private information. (Yours or anyone else’s.) Do not share posts or content outside of Maker District Social without prior consent. This includes screenshots of private information or conversations.
-No posting of explicit pictures, videos, sexual items, websites, or anything else related to it. We understand that some art/creations depict nudity, but keep it tasteful. If you wouldn’t share it at the dinner table with family, it probably shouldn’t be shared here.
-Absolutely no political posts or comments of any kind.
-We see enough inflammatory content and misinformation elsewhere on the interwebs, please keep it there.
-Be relevant. Keep your posts, comments, and item listings related to making.
-Keep your words polite and refrain from using profanity and other suggestive or inappropriate language.
-No spam of any kind. Report any spam. Spammers will be removed from the platform immediately.
-No trolling of any kind. Report the trolls, don’t feed the trolls! Trolls will be removed from the platform immediately.
-There are creepy people out there, and this is a public space. Please don’t share pictures of your children.

STORES
———————————————————————————————————————
-No selling of explicit pictures, videos, sexual items, websites, or anything else related to it.
-No selling copyrighted materials or intellectual property. We all love seeing original work!
-In order to preserve the content in our online community, please refrain from self-promotion, spam, advertising, and solicitation (whether direct or in-direct). If you have a store, website or other social media account, please add it to your profile and leave it at that.
-Don’t post content or list “items” in stores if its main purpose is to promote another company, website, author, special offer, etc.
-As a community that supports makers, all items listed for sale (unless it is a supply, tool, or equipment used to make), MUST be handmade. No drop shippers. All items that are not handmade, a supply, a tool, or a piece of equipment will be removed from the store directory. If you see a listing that goes against these standards, please report it or flag the item.
-When leaving feedback for a store, be honest and truthful about your experience while maintaining a high level of professionalism and politeness. Before leaving negative feedback, ensure that all efforts have been made to resolve any issues amicably.
-It goes without saying, but we will say it anyway - do not post content or items for sale that encourage illegal activities like violence, illegal drug use, underage drinking, drinking and driving, child abuse, elderly abuse, animal abuse, fraud - you get the idea.
